Q: SCSI ID connections in APS case to the HD

I now have a revitalized LC with one exception. Does anyone have an old Apple hard drive mounted in an APS "Closed Face ZFP Drive"? Mine was working fine before my LC quit working. In the process of troubleshooting, I pulled the HD from the APS case without noting where the SCSI APS connectors go on the HD; dumb! If somebody can help with the correct data it would be appreciated!

    Hi Jan,

Thanks for your resistor analysis; I was beginning to doubt my sanity. BTW, I hope you weren't burning the midnight oil with that problem! What time zone are you actually in?

Today I plan to reopen the LC and reverse the HDs then I'll switch the "new" PWB and my original, recapped PWB. I'll let you know the results.

    Hello again,

    GMT +1 (Sweden)

Good luck! As mentioned by Jeff earlier, an active external terminator may be more reliable (you would have to remove the termination resistor packs from the external hard drive if you wish to try this).

    Hi Jan,

I'm up and running with my LC, the ext. HD, label printer, color and sound. It has been quite a fight and I want to thank you and the others that provided suggestions and information; it has been a learning experience and just goes to show you that you are never too old, etc., etc...

To sum up the findings, I started with the basics (again). I installed each of the HDs in the LC and they both checked out. Next I changed the PWBs but first discovered that I had neglected to install one the 10Mf caps next to the sound chip. I figured that was the reason I wasn't getting sound but no such luck. Still no ext. HD with recapped original PWB. What was left?

I took a good look at the APS connector on the computer end and discovered that APS had put extensions on the two screws that secure the connector to it's mate on the computer and when the screws were tightened, they bottomed out before the connector pins made contact. The screws on the outside end did not have screwdriver slots and I guess I just didn't get them tight enough:-(

Other then some mechanical & hardware issues with the HD in the APS enclosure and a printer driver that disappeared and had to reinstalled, the project is finished and my LC is running fine. A final observation; I now have a PWB with 10Mb of memory & old caps in place of my original PWB with 4Mb of memory & new caps and no sound. I consider it a pretty good trade even if somewhat iffy wouldn't you say?

    Thanks again.

    Hi Len,

Good to hear that you found the solution to the 'disappearing hard disk' issue. By now you would have spare parts for almost one extra computer (perhaps it is time to build a case for it).

    Kind regards,
