Q: my MacBook Air does not recognize my hp photosmart 7510 printer when connected by a usb cable - i have checked the cable, the usb outlet on the computer and the printer with my Sony laptop. I am completely baffled - can anyone help!??

My brand new MacBook Air will not recognize my HP Photosmart Printer when plugged in on a USB Cable. I have checked the cable, the USB outlet on the Mac, and the printer works when connected to my Sony Vaio - I have followed all the steps to reset the printer, but when it is plugged in, the MacBook doesn't list it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

MacBook Air, OS X Mavericks (10.9.1)

Try a factory reset of the printer. Check the printer manual for how.
Try downloading the new driver from HP: Software & driver downloads HP Photosmart 7510 e-All-in-One Printer - C311a | HP® Support

Thank you Arthur - I have tried to download the software from HP and it just hangs in my download stack and won't download. Apple is clear that they support the printer, so I followed their instructions - but when I plug in the printer, it isn't listed.

Think I might see the problem - just looked at the drivers again and it only has 10.9, not 10.9.1 - I have a feeling it isn't available. Any thoughts????

I don't think the printer manufacturers are showing 10.9.1 for their drivers yet. That's probably not the issue.

Try deleting the printer and the /Library/Printers/hp folder, then restarting. Then try to use software update to install the driver. If that doesn't work, you can install the HP drivers:
