My kids placed Pages in trash by accident. I've tried to retrieve by "drag and drop" It won't allow. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You could just empty the trash and then log in to your account on the Mac App Store and just re-download and install it. Just be sure to use the same AppleID as you did originally to get it, and you can re-download it as many times as needed.
