Both my macbook pro and apple tv are connected via wifi to the same router however they cannot detect each other. Why is this?

I am trying to airplay from my macbook pro (2011) to my apple tv. I have ensure that both are connected to the internet via the same router. After all this my macbook still doesnt recognize the device. What do I do?

Turn off the firewall on the Mac temporarily, do they connect now?

Turn off IPV6 in the network settings (google it), do they connect now?

Check the router is not using a feature called wireless isolation.

Look at the IP address assigned to each device to ensure that they are on the same subnet.
