After installing Digital Camera RAW compatibility Update 5.03, chrome and utorrent are both broken. Both "quit unexpectedly" before opening. Not sure how or if the update could be related, but that was when it started. Reports contain the following:
Crashed Thread: 0 Dispatch queue: com.apple.main-thread
The problem exists on all user accounts.
Anyone know how to fix or further diagnose this?

I don't believe a camera update would have any effect on a browser. Check for Chrome updates. You might try to repair permissions.
As for utorrent, I cannot help as I would not go near a site that offers software which costs money elsewhere.
Thanks babowa. Have re-installed Chrome and repaired permissions, to no effect. I don't know what you mean about utorrent costing money elsewhere? It is freely available from the official site.
The update itself may be unrelated, just laying out the fact that it was ONLY after the update, and IMMEDIATELY after the update, that the problem occured.
I didn't mean the site; I was referring to downloading software from torrent sites which would cost money elsewhere.
Torrent downloads are the easiest way to install malicious malware.

Only if you are downloading keygens and precracked software. They are perfectly safe for downloading verified media torrents.
That may be true, but I feel better never using one.
That's completely understandable. It's always better to clarify broad sweeping generalizations, however (and I certainly have been corrected for making such generalizations in the past on these forums). Cheers.
It's not a generalization, it's just a warning against the danger of torrent files made by unknown up loaders. If you know and trust the uploaders then good. I would still never trust a torrent download personally.

Why not? Just because you are downloading from multiple sources rather than a single, (and just as corruptible) source? You could always perform a hash check...

The topic is chrome and utorrent. How can it be answered without mentioning the safety of torrents? Lord knows what May have been dowoaded if you download torrents. It is relevant.

Well, unless someone here actually uses torrents, there won't be any expertise available. And, since the ToU state that one should try a solution on their own machine before posting it, I'm not sure that you would get too many people willing to take such a risk.
As for Chrome, I offered the only suggestion I could think of; personally I do not use that either because it is a Google product. Another thought would be to uninstall the Chrome and torrent software and reinstall. If that does not work...
A last solution that might work is to use recovery (Command + R while rebooting/restarting), wiping your drive, and reinstalling the OS. Of course, make sure you have a backup first, but do not port over any files to do with torrents and/or Chrome.
Since the problem began, Skype, Picassa and Rosetta Stone have been shown to be identically affected. Therefore I do not believe any particular app expertise is needed, it is an OS problem for sure. No one has any ideas short of wiping?
I can practically guarantee it is not a torrent download related problem, as nothing was downloaded for several days prior to the onset of the issue. Also I never download things of an executable nature via torrent.
I agree with this. uTorrent is a stable application that works perfectly fine in OSX Mavericks - the manner in which it is used is not relevent to this issue. Moreover, this is a widespread issue across multiple applications.
