Q: Punch-in and punch-out removed from GB X?

I found this support article in the Apple knowledge base explaining how to do dynamic punch-in/punch-out while recording in Logic Pro X (setting up markers playing the track and only replace a select portion of time).

http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12967

The features described in this article are not available in GB X. So I assume punch-in and punc-out has been removed. One of the reasons I loved the Mac Book Pro was Garage Band I truely believe (this is just my opinion) but I think with all these changes Apple has destroyed this once great product. I don't understand the reason behind these changes and I believe it's just wrong to take something you'be been giving away for free for so long and the degrade that product just to make more profits. Especially when you are the wealthest tech company in the world.

Please tell me I'm overlooking something and that you can still do punch-in and punch-out in GB X... So ready to just move on to Pro Tools I guess. I'm actually sick of this because there is so much I still love about Garage Band, even some new features in X but there is so much they got wrong or purposely have crippled like this IMO. These are horrible design ideas and I hope Apple allows opinions to be voiced like this.

Never say "no", but I have not yet discovered that feature in GB 10.0.

Have you kept your GarageBand '11, version 6.0.5? The GarageBand 10.0 installer will have moved it to a subfolder "GarageBand 6.0.5" of Applications, so you still can use it. It works well with Mavericks.

That Apple did not remove the older version indicates to me, that Apple is very aware of the missing features, and I hope that newer GarageBand release will bring many of them back (sampler instruments, podcast track, effects, punch in).  In the case of the new iWork for Mac the developers even announced a schedule, when the missing previous features will be supported again, see:  About the new iWork for Mac: Features and compatibility

Let's hope, we will see the same for GarageBand.
