Roland GR 20 and Garage Band
Greetings, everyone.
I've recently purchased a Roland GR 20 guitar synt and I'm very happy with it. However - I don't know whether it's due to my ignorance or if it's a practical system limitation - I'm having one issue in connecting it to Garage Band. If I connect it through midi via my TEAC US 428 USB mixer I can access the Garage Band soundbank and use the GB sounds (which can be tricky - no bending, for example). The relevant track I create is a software track. I found no way to "exclude" the GB sounds to the advantage of the GR 20 sounds.
On the other hand, that the only way I can record the GR 20 sounds is via 1/4 inch jack from the GR 20 output going into the mixer as "audio" (MIDI in/out cables are also connected). That allows me to record (with negligible latency, I have to say) real instrument tracks, with bending and other obvious advantages. The problem is that, not only a real instrument track cannot be manipulated and "corrected" like a software one, but GB only appears to receive the synt sound and not the "normal" guitar sound. That prevents me from playing "combined sounds".
My question is: is there an alternative or more effective way to go about connecting the GR 20 to GB to achieve the result I'm after? Unfortunately the GR 20 does not have a USB connection, however, I noticed that if I vary the volume of the Roland pick-up, the fader in the GB track follows suit. Could a MIDI to USB interface be the answer?
Thanks in advance
