What if my computer doesnt have and apple configuration to put the # in front of? I get to that point and get stuck

I am trying to update my hosts so I can update my iphone. I followed the directions and it was all good until I got to the put a # in front of the line for apple. There was nothing there ...just local hosts. Now what?

iPhone 4S, iOS 5.1.1
