I have a group of files that I can find on my drive. let's say they are all jpg files, but some are backups (-i.jpg) while other are the original. How do I isolate the -1.jpg files from the .jpg. right now they are all mixed together.

This works for me:
If all the files are in the same folder, search with spotlight for "-" in that folder.
That should bring up all the backup files. Select those and drag them to another folder.
That should leave the other original files with no "-" in the title in the first folder.

Under Spotlight Preferences, you can add any folder (or drive) that you would like to omit from searches. I'd add the backup folder or drive that contains those backup files, and then you won't see them during any search.
