Cannot install 'Pages' app unless upgrade to iOS7... ?

I want to install the 'Pages' application on an iPad running iOS 6.0.1, but the application refuses to install, unless I upgrade to iOS 7.

I get a message that says "This application requires iOS 7.0 or later. You must update to iOS 7.0 in order to download and use this application."

However, I don't want to upgrade to iOS7. However I do still want to purchase & use the 'Pages' application for iPad.
