Transferring music from old laptop to a new one

I've just bought a new laptop (Windows 8) and want to use my ipod with it which has all my CD collection on it - no downloads. Can i simply download itunes and link my ipod classic to it or is it more complicated than that? My previous laptop was Vista if that's any help. I'm a not overly computer literate but not a complete numpty so keep the answers simple! Cheers!
