What types of audio surround sound does apple tv support

Does apple tv support 7.1 6.1 or 9.1 audio surround sound?

AppleTV 2, iOS 6.1.2

That is deturmaned by the content provider. It will depend on what surround sound option the content is encoded with.

so some itunes movies might support 6.1 7.1 or 9.1 while others might not?

Yes, just like content acquired from any other site, not all content supports surround sound and most supports 5.1. I have never heard of 9.1.
