ipod nano giving "cyclic redundancy check error"

Hi
I have an ipod nano 4gb. recently when i connect it to my windows laptop it is not showing up in iTunes. I have gone thru the support site and tried all the options, none of them worked though. It is getting recognized by windows os and when i try to copy something to the removable disk(ipod) it pops up a message saying "cyclic redundancy check error".
can someone help me in this.

Thanks
Kousik

The cyclic redundancy check error (CRC) means that there is either a problem with the file you are trying to transfer to your iPod, or with the files already on the iPod. The fact that it happens when you try to copy something to the nano would indicate a problem with the nano itslef. If you have any data already on the nano, see if you can open it without getting that error, or successfully copy other data to it.

You've probably been through this, but read this article: iPod shows up in Windows but not in iTunes.

If you keep getting the CRC error, and the iPod isn't recognized in iTunes or the iPod updater, you probably need to format the drive. Back up the data on your iPod if you can, and right click on the disk in My Computer and select format. Format it in FAT32, and don't do a quick format. Then, restore the iPod with the iPod updater.

Hey Tom,

Thanks for your reply and you solution worked. my ipod started working again ... 🙂 i am very happy.. thank you.

But i still have a question. When i am trying to copy songs thru itunes, after reaching a stage it is throwing an error. It says
'Attempting to copy to the disk "IPOD" failed. An unknown error occured (-69)'.

One thing i noticed was it copied upto 1.74gb and then it is not able to write to it. mine is a 4gb ipod nano.

Need ur valuable suggestion again.

Thanks
