Q: Browser not responding - link to www speed?

Safari and Firefox often go into "not responding" mode for minutes on end. Unison too. Is there any connection betwen this problem and internet acess speed? I'm on very rural uncapped 256kb plan. If my connection to the web stalls - will these browsers "hang" or is it more likely a memory issue?

Some months back I upgraded to 10.6.8 and it works fine except now I'm starting to get the 'wall of death' - the dark curtain which descends and prompts a re-start. Worrying as I am 100's of miles from any Apple store/repair.

If there is a report shown when you restart after the dark curtain, pleas post it here.

If the report is not shown automatically, look in  /Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports

For your internet problems I'd suggest rebooting your router, just unplug the power wait a few seconds then power it back up.

The "wall of death" yo describe is a kernel panic. http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3742

I suggest you uninstall these per the developers instructions

    Thank you for that advice.

Ok, did the router restart and uninstalled Elmedia Player...but what is this - did a search and nothing showed up?

Will do the 'safe boot' if the wall of death returns.

I just found this elsewhere on this site:

So, I've been back to the "com.hzsystems.driver" Google list and spent a bit more time. It seems that "com.hzsystems.driver" is a non-Apple kernel extension. The second part of the name "CDSDAudioCaptureSupport 1.5 indicates that it belongs to Spin Doctor.

Spin Doctor is a program that comes with Roxio Toast Titanium and is used for digitizing analogue audio. I don't use Spin Doctor (preferring Amadeus Pro) but I do keep all the Toast software up to date.

    I'm going in......
