Why am I unable to add a phonetic name to my contacts

I am Chinese and I am using English as my default language because I think it's nicer. But the thing is all my Chinese contacts(with Chinese characters) are all mixed up due to what I don't know. So I am trying to add a phonetic name to every contact of mine. Then the issue comes up when I am editting my contacts. For example, I go to a contact and hit EDIT. Scroll down and hit ADD FIELD. Hit ADD PHONETIC LAST NAME and under the LAST NAME tag I got a PHONETIC LAST NAME which is Chinese Pinyin. Then I hit DONE and nothing happened. Help.
