How do I listen to my podcasts without the ability to connect to WiFi?

How do I listen to my podcasts without the ability to connect to WiFi? I want to listen to Podcasts while at work. WiFi is blocked in our area due to product testing we perform. We can't use ITunes on our work PCs. My IPod classic played Podcasts without being connected to the internet.

I like most of the functionality of the IPod touch, but am not fond of being forced to use different Apps for everything when those apps require internet connection.

iPod touch (4th generation), iOS 6.1.5, Model MC547LL/A

I don't have iOS 7 ( 🙂 ), so I'm a bit out-on-a-limb here.

However, my understanding about a Touch with iOS 6.1.5 is that if you do not have the Podcast app installed on your iPod, that Podcasts can be played through the Music app on the iPod, as you can on iOS 4.2.1. Try this for yourself and see if it is so. If anyone can confirm this for me, I would be grateful, since I tried various iPods in-store last Friday (all with iOS 7 of course), and while some had the Podcast app installed, others did not. But since none of them had any Podcasts on them, it was unclear how this all works. Even the store staff couldn't help me.

If you download the Podcast app (which requires iOS 7) into your iTunes Library, it is then possible to have iTunes find a compatible version for your iPod. Again, since I'm on iOS 4.2.1, I have no experience of how this works, but that's what I've read.

There appears to be different copies of the user guide on Apple's site, because just the other day I was reading about playing Podcasts through the music app, but the copy I find online today does not specifically state that you can.

Currently I am unable to access the Podcasts without the Podcast App. They don't sync/show up in the Music app or anywhere else. I've heard that audio books will play on the music app, but I have not verified this. If you listen to either, I would request the store figure out how to demo it for you before purchasing. I'm betting that if it is stated as "I value this option and require a demo before purchase, they will figure it out". 🙂 It is worth avoiding the hassle later.

The Classic is set up completely differently than the Touch and is much more user friendly/ plug and play. Items appear as a menu option on the Classic, but the Touch is set up differently in that you need an app for each individual item (Video/Music/Podcasts). It is possible that the podcasts were playable in the Music app for previous generations of the Touch, I would not know.

I will begin the seach for the solution on this one.

It's not much to ask, is it?

I also have a Classic, although I found the old iPod Touch much better for Podcasts than the Classic. Unfortunately, the Podcast App for the newre versions of the Touch appears to not be a forward step! Especially since anyone who doesn't have iOS 7 is apparently unable to listen to Podcasts on their iPod.

Makes no sense!

Sorry I couldn't offer you a solution.
