You shouldn't lose anything unless you have music stored in the Cloud that you did not purchase from Apple and you have deleted from your computer because you were relying upon Match to have it.

Just to be sure, always make sure you have a complete backup of your iTunes folder at all times just in case something surprising happens (like your hard drive crashing).

Thanks for the response.  I'm in the process of rebuilding my music library on a new desktop after my old computer crashed and unfortunately, I did not have it backed up.  I did have iTunes on my ipad so I was able to sync/transfer to my new desktop, but only the songs I had purchased from iTunes transferred over, not the songs I had copied from CD's, etc.

I've been trying to find out how to sync my ipad completely (purchased and copied music) with the desktop and have read several help topics on syncing to no avail.  Seems like you can only sync completely when you are going from desktop to iPad and not reverse.

    Don't you have iTunes Match?

Just redownload everything, including RIP'd CDs.

You can get everything off your iPad.

-> Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device

I didn't have iTunes Match when my computer crashed, purchased since.  Thanks for the article reference.  Am hesitant to turn on Match on the iPad as it warns you that your library will be replaced and I do not want to lose what is currently on my iPad (all those songs copied from CDs).  I've slowly been trying to replace and recopy cd music now that I have Match on my desktop.
