HD Movies will not play

All of the HD movies I have purchased and downloaded from Itunes will not play. The SD movies I have tried are still working as far as I know.

It is important to note that I have played all of the HD movies before using the exact system I am currently using without any issue.

When attempting to watch the HD movies, the player opens but it is only a black screen, and the timer never movies as if it is paused.

Itunes 11.1.3

Windows 7 64

Any ideas as to what would cause this?

Itunes 11.1.3-OTHER, Windows 7

This appears to be the same story with Windows 10 as well. As long as the Hyper-V software is installed iTunes will not play any HD related content over a certain resolution. However i have found that *some* HD content will play, but not 1080i/p content. Uninstall all Hyper-V software and everything works again. Wish Apple had mentioned this a little sooner. Wonder if we can ever expect a fix for this?

I had a similar issues. Windows 10 pro connected via HDMI to TV running higher than 1920x1080. Issue was with Display scaling (or DPI). With the UHD resolution made things difficult to see. I had pushed the dpi scaling to 200% so things were easier to see. iTunes apparently does not differentiate between dpi scaling and resolution correctly. Pushing this setting down corrected the issue and allowed me to play in HD. Depending on your resolution you can test and find a setting that will work, but its not actually a resolution issue, just how iTunes detects the resolution with the DPI scaling enabled. By default this not at 100% on over 1080 resolutions. To change setting right click on desktop>display settings. Slider at the top is the adjustment you need.

This is for the Windows 8-8.1 users out there: If you have the Pro version of Windows 8 and just recently upgraded to 8.1, Microsoft automatically includes a Virtual Machine package called Hyper-V Client. It doesn't ask you if you want to install it, it just does.

The Hyper-V package installs a secondary video driver that breaks HDCP, which means you can't play HD movies even on a compliant system. You need to get rid of it. To do so:

  1. Go to Control Panel
  2. Programs and Features
  3. Turn Windows Features on or Off
  4. Uncheck "Hyper-V"
  5. Reboot.

This applies to almost anything that requires HDCP, so if you're having trouble with Blu-Rays or Amazon Prime, that's likely the culprit.

NashBridges you need to check your facts. There are three different versions of Windows 8. They are Basic, Pro and Enterprise. Basic is the consumer version which is what you get from the hardware vendor. This also would be equal to Windows 7 Home. Pro and Enterprise typically are for the corporate infrastructure. Both Pro and Enterprise will have the option of the option for hyper-v. Hyper-v is used in visualization and disabling this function would break any apps that are sent using App-V or in a VDI infrastructure.

This problem needs to be escalated to the developers as this issue is there in there query of the video adapter. I am running the latest video drivers and have the same problem. I check with the hardware vendor with the video that that is in my laptop and there are no updates available. Version prior to the 11.1.4.62 does not have this problem. All my HD videos work correctly except for what is on Itunes.

Also disabling a feature is only a workaround and not a fix. You must find the root cause of the problem and fix it there vs. using a workaround. Workarounds typically causes other problems and should only be used in extreme circumstances.

Have tried multiple workarounds and solutions for this issue and nothing seems to work.

I have re-installed itunes, as well as redownloaded all of the HD movies I have purchased.

I have double checked all of my display devices, both of my monitors, TV, and video card (HD radeon 7850) all support HDCP

I have tried disabling various almost every display/graphics setting there is possible

I have followed various tutorials, including one aimed at this and similar issues http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1718

As I mentioned before, i have played all of these HD movies before and it played back fine. One of the movies did mention something not being HDCP compatible (can't remember what), but it played back fine after just closing itunes and reopening it (and I already mentioned that all of my displays/relevant hardware are HDCP compatible).
