Recording multi midi channels from external sequencer

Hi

1st post, sorry if the question is too easy to solve.

I have an external seuencer that I have assigned 16 track channels to and they play ok, but will NOT record.

In the environment window, I have connected my Incoming USB to a Multi Instrument which is then wired to a Channel Splitter.

The Channel Splitter has a wire coming from it that doesnt go anywhere!!! (my gut instinct says this is wrong)

The sequencer (VArranger 2) will play of the tracks indvidually, the volume indicators light up and the sound can be heard, but even when the track record arm buttons are switched on, NO midi data is recorded.

any help would be most welcome

Hi

You have tried this the wrong way. Nothing will be recorded into Logic if you have disconnected the Sequencer Input in the Clicks and Ports layer in the Environment.

Try again in a new project (ie one with the Environment set up correctly).

You will end up with one track that has all MIDI channels recorded on it. You can then use Edit:Separate MIDI Events by Event Channel to split it up.

It is possible to set Logic up to do this automatically by a multi-stage setup process:

A) Assign each tracks in Logic to the desired MIDI channel in the Track Parameters in the Inspector

B) Use Settings:Recording:Auto Demix by channel if multitrack recording

C) Record arm all the tracks and record.

Thanks for the reply.

I watched a YouTube video last night that showed me to connect it up that way!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll gave another go later this evening.

This is my 1st Mac, 1st Mac DAW, having worked with cakewalk from version 1, so please bare with me

I have used Logic both ways, the youtube video is set up to use Logic as a play-only sound module, so that instruments are set up responding to whatever MIDI channel is coming in. The Sequencer will not record this way.

CCT has given you the proper method.

Sorry, I am experienced in Windows DAW's, but the Mac, and Logic are new to me, coiuld you please explain the process as if it was "an Idiots Guide To|" setting up a sequencer😉

Also, I do like the idea of the Play Only sound module setup, I really want to keep this kind of look, if only it would record the midi events
