Lightning to SD card camera reader not working.

I bought the Apple lightning to Sd card reader for my ipad mini only a week ago. The first time I used it it worked fine and I imported photos. The next day I tried to use it and it does not recognise it at all. I have plugged it in and unplugged it, turned ipad on and off and tried different sd cards.

Any ideas?... Please help I am really frustrated I only bought this so I could back photos up whilst travelling. Also I can not return the reader to the shop for at least a month.

Thanks in advance :)

Thank you for this post! The key for my extremely inconsistent issues was that I often did not put photos into a sub-directory on the SD card. To clarify on your post though, you can in fact copy photos to an SD card (from a computer or whatever source) and have the reader/import function work just fine... You just need to copy them into a sub-directory. I just created a new folder called "DCIM" on the SD card and copy photos into that folder. Works like a charm now.

I also had the same issue of iPhone or iPad, not reading the picture files.

In order for iPhone or iPad to read the picture files, make sure that the picture files are in the following sub-folder (in the folder DCIM):

For example, the picture files should be in the sub-folder (100NIKON):

DCIM/100NIKON (or something similar to this, for Nikon)

For Canon and other types of cameras, there will be a sub-folder similar to the above in the folder DCIM.

If you place the picture files in any other place in the SD card, iPhone or iPad will not import the picture files.

Diana, thanks a lot reminding us about the file system and formatting the SD card.

To make this simple, this is what we could do.

1. Buy a brand new SD card

2. Insert this card in a camera

3. Take just one picture with the camera (this will create the sub-directory)

4. Remove the SD card from the camera and insert the SD card into a computer

5. Go to the sub-directory under DCIM (example sub-directory: DCIM/100NIKON

)

6. Make sure that picture that u just took is in the sub-directory under DCIM.

If the picture that you just took is in the sub-directory under DCIM, you are set to copy all of your pictures from your computer to the sub-directory under DCIM (example sub-directory: DCIM/100NIKON)

After you have copied your pictures from your computer to the SD card (in the sub-directory under DCIM):

1. remove the SD card from the computer

2. insert the SD card in the “SD card reader”

3. Connect the “SD card reader” to your iPhone or iPad

Now you should see all the pictures, that you just copied, on the iPhone or iPad screen. Follow the instructions on the screen.

Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430

Hi

Thanks for your replies, I had already read the troubleshooting and I have just reset my Ipad.

Still not working.

Do you think there is a fault with the reader? It's strange that it worked once then stopped, it hasn't been damaged at all it's only been out of the box once. I wish I hadn't bothered spending the money on it :(
