I lost my contact list and tried restoring from itunes but it didnt work. I think itunes did a back up save after I lost my list.

Ok my Iphone 4s locked up and I had to shut it down and restart it. When it restarted my contact list was gone. I went to Itunes and and clicked restore and it selected today as the last backup. It did the whole restore but my contact list is still missing. Is there another way for me to get my contact list back.?
