When you say it "stops", what is happening, or should I say not happening? What error are you receiving when you say it is no longer working? Is this a POP, IMAP, or Exchange account?

I have exactly the same problem.... time and time again.  The work-around was simply to delete the account and re-enter all the info that was rejected so suddenly after 2-3 weeks.  Message" CANNOT GET MAIL/  The mail server "foobar, com" is not responding.  Verify that you have entered the correct account info in the Mail settings."  The mail info was correct as witnessed by the work around.

Any ideas would help me too.

    Thanks.

Who is the email provider? Once the device verifies and saves the account, nothing should change except on the server end.

InMotionHosting ....  Funny, don't have this problem with any other devices ... my other ipad, pc running thunderbird, or whatever.  AND, it started rather abruptly just before the upgrade to iOS7.0.4 (the release of which -- and this problem --- prompted my u/grading).

Well, I've got iOS 7.0.4 on 2 iPhone 5s, an iPhone 5c, and iPhone 4s and an iPhone 4, and 2 iPad minis, and all are receiving mail without having to go through what you are experiencing, so I wouldn't say it is the iOS. Have you done any troubleshooting of the phone, other than just deleting the mail account? I would say start with a restore from backup. If that does not fix it, then a restore as new. That will delete everything off the phone and put in a new version of iOS and then you can add things back.

One last thing I was thinking as I sent this. Is this a POP account? If it is POP and you are accessing from multiple devices, are you accessing anything at the same time. In other words, do they have fetch settings on them? It is possible that more than one device tries to access the account at the same time, and the server is locked and could produce a similar error message on one device if another is accessing the server.

I've now spent so much time on this, I guess I will have to do the new reset and hope that works for longer.  Thanks for your ideas; I was pretty sure it wasn't the OS since the problem antedated the u/g.   Not POP, so that good idea doesn't apply.  I just deleted the two accounts and re-entered them; as before this works.

Again, thanks so much for your help.  I guess this problem is just the gremlins at work.

What kind of account is it then? I would be curious. I've never seen the mail client act this way on my device or others I know, nor do I remember reading of this either. Not to say it hasn't happened, but it seems to me this has something to do with the the account and/or provider.
