Problems with Apple TV staying connected to Vizio M501D-A2R TV

In less than a week, I've gone through 2 new Apple TV devices by attempting to connect them to my Vizio M501D-A2R which is brand new. Whatever is happening is totally rendering the Apple TV devices non-functioning. Does anyone else have this problem? If so, how did you fix it or could you? Are there any work-arounds? My Apple TVs will connect and remain connected for a few hours. But when I finish using it for the first time and return later to use it again, I find the devices destrioyed and will not even reset using iTunes. Any guidance is appreciated.

Something I've discovered along the way is that this particular TV is a very powerful TV and HDMI cables don't seem to carry enough power to make a full powered cable connection. I tried using a VGA to HDMI adapter and it worked fine. So I don't know if I discovered the answer or that I just discovered a quirk with my TV and Apple TV and HDMI connections.
