not able to share the screen of my iMac with my apple TV using maveric

Hi, Maverick should be able to "share" its screen of the iMac with apple TV so that what is shown on the iMac could be shown on a TV as well, How ever the neccessary "option" in the menubar is missing in the top of the screen (iMAC) nevertheless this option is been "signed on" in the screensettings: Show available options to synchronise in the menubar, ?????
