imac memory clock speed

I am getting the latest 2014 iMac. I want to upgrade the memory chips. According to my supplier, they have same size but different timing chips available all for 1600MHz:

  • Official Mac Certified RAM is 1600MHz Timing: 11-11-11-30 retail $279 for 16GB
  • Non-Mac Corsair Vengance 1600MHz Timing: 9-9-9-24 retail $319 for 16GB

Can I install the faster one in the iMac, or will that not work reliably (or at all!?)

Thanks for the feedback. Anyone knows how much this change of ram speed reflects in, say Geekbench results?

I actually found some 8GB Mac ram, and will swap that into my Mac Mini, so I can use it's current 16GB Mac ram (CL11), in my new iMac which is coming tomorrow.

So my curiosity of the performance increase due to CL9 vsCL11, is now just academic.
