"iTunes Store is currently unavailable. Please try again later" on Apple TV

I've recently had trouble accessing any purchased content through Apple TV. Whenever I try and play content I have purchased I recieve the error message "iTunes Store is currently unavailable. Please try again later". This has been going on for 5 days now. I can play my purchased content from the cloud on my iPhone, my iPad and my desktop computer however when I try and use AirPlayto stream it onto Apple TV, it does not play and I am stuck looking at "now playing on Apple TV" screen with nothing happening.


I have already tried:

  • Restarting Apple TV
  • Restoring Apple TV to factory settings
  • Signing out and back in
  • Changing Dolby Audio to "on"
  • Checked the time zone is correct


I have also signed into my sister's account - everything played perfectly fine. I have tried three different Apple TV devices, exactly the same problem. I have called iTunes and Apple support and both are baffled and have said they do not know what to do, my account according to them is completely fine and technical support have said they do not know what to do - so I really feel I'm at a loose end.


This problem has occured since changing my password - I don't know if that means anything?


Does anybody have any suggestions?

Nathan, I am having the EXACT same problem with my Apple TV, including trying to Airplay from an iPad or iPhone. I've also tried resetting, restoring, signing out, signing in, everything. It all started when I changed my Apple ID email address. All my other devices updated fine, but now the Apple TV is basically useless.


I'm going to give Apple support a ring over the weekend but if you discover a solution in the mean time please do post it here!

I've had the same problem, also after I changed my Apple ID, finally managed to get it working after a week of tearing my hair out in frustration. I went to iTunes Store in settings and trashed my Apple ID, then re-added it with the new password. Seems to be working fine now...or the apple store is coincidentally available again after 5 days...
