how does find my iphone work

How do you use the find my iphone app. i click on it and it doesn't even show my ipad. it only shows the one i am using - not the one i am trying to find, which by the way is sitting right next to me.

Do they both use the exact same iCloud account? Find my iPad/iPhone is tied to the hardware address of the device linked to the iCloud account for which the setting was enabled. As long as you use the same iCloud account to enable find my iPad/iPhone on each device, then they all should be listed in the find my iphone app or at www.icloud.com in a computer's browser when logged in with that same iCloud login ID.


The device will also need to be powered on and connected to the internet, so a wifi-only iPad, if unplugged and asleep, will not show up since the wifi radio powers off when unplugged and in sleep mode. A cell phone can use either a wifi connection or a cellular data connection - it just needs an internet connection.
