Jan 22, 2014 7:09 AM in response to Russ Hby Meliea,Hey Russ, i didn't want to upset you! I'm very glad that someone responded to my question!!
So you suggest that the Motion templates folder (where the titles are) can cause this problem because it's not in the movie folder?

Jan 22, 2014 7:11 AM in response to Melieaby Tom Wolsky,I'm not sure what your problem is. You can store libraries and media pretty much however you want. There are good ways and bad ways, but I'm not clear on what limitations you're seeing.

Jan 22, 2014 7:42 AM in response to Tom Wolskyby Meliea,Tom, that's what i assumed (Russ just told that "The app only expects to see libraries in the Movies folder on the boot drive").
My problem is that the program freezes when edit/copy titles.... Do you know where the Motion Templates folder should be located?? Could it be a problem when the folder is stored elsewhere?
thank you for your continued help, m

Jan 22, 2014 8:01 AM in response to Melieaby Tom Wolsky,Russ is correct of course. The Motion folder has to be in a specific location for the application to find it. This has nothing to do with your projects or media. This doesn't effect how you organize your workflow. Clearly the application cannot go hunting through multiple drives and directories to find the folder. It has to be on a fixed location. Perhaps it should be in Application Support.

Jan 22, 2014 9:34 AM in response to Tom Wolskyby Meliea,Pls don't mix up libraries (can be stored "anywhere") and motion templates. First, the question was where the libraries are stored, then there was my thought that the motion templates can probably cause problems when not stored right... as mentioned before i've deleted the motion templates folder from the movies-location, because they've been totally empty (and i didn't see a use for them).

Jan 22, 2014 9:48 AM in response to Melieaby Tom Wolsky,There's no point in deleting the folder. The application will immediately recreate it. I don't think your problem is related to the Motion folder. A more likely source is a font problem, maybe a corrupted font in your FontBook.

Jan 22, 2014 10:02 AM in response to Tom Wolskyby Meliea, yes, maybe that wasn't the smartest move...
I set up the system from scratch, fresh os installation, fresh fcpx installation (with update to .1.1), no external or downloaded fonts... but from other threads i read that maybe mutated vowel ("ü") can be a problem?

Jan 22, 2014 10:13 AM in response to Melieaby Tom Wolsky,I haven't seen a problem with umlauts. It may be on done fonts that aren't complete.

Jan 22, 2014 10:45 AM in response to Tom Wolskyby Meliea, tom, sorry for that question, but what do you mean by "done fonts that aren't complete"?
-
Jan 22, 2014 10:50 AM in response to Melieaby Tom Wolsky,Should be "some fonts". Sometimes fonts will have special characters that are missing in the font book. Check through the fonts in your system library Fonts folder to make sure they are look right.

Jan 23, 2014 10:34 AM in response to Melieaby Timmay1369,I have been having random crashes with 10.1.1 as well, I spoke with apple support and they seem to be as dumbfounded as I am about why it is crashing,
Brand new iMac, default install of everything, no 3rd party plugins or fonts installed, all media imported is prores 422, FCPX just randomly crashes and when reopening, all of the files in the library I was working on are gone, I also lose the ability to move between other libraries, the file browser windows stays frozen on the missing project. Everything I do seems to make it worse or repeats the same problem, I can restore the project from a backup, but then all of my media in the project are unlinked, and I need to re link all of them again. I can edit for a few more minutes until it crashes and then the project and media are gone again from the backup....I have not been able to work since the day of the 10.1.1 update. Frustrating and I have not found a solution. I am thinking of torrenting 10.1.0 and installing that until they fix this BS.

Jan 23, 2014 10:50 AM in response to Tom Wolskyby Meliea, hello again!
just checked the fontbook, everything's good here, BUT i recognize that fcp has a lot more fonts listed than in the fontbook (for example: Apple SD Gothic Neo). so i tried copy/paste/edit a title with a font that appears in the fontbook, aaand voila, no crashes til now... then switched to a font which only appears in fcp, and here we go, it crashes again. if i can't get rid of this problem, that means to me that i always have to check which font is in the fontbook before i use it in fcp (which is a very bad workaround...). i also checked in fcp contents/resources/fonts and there's only one: FCMetro34.ttf
what can i do?

Jan 23, 2014 11:07 AM in response to Melieaby fox_m,FCPX and Motion ship with "specialty" fonts which are not installed with the system, they are stored within the app itself. If you're having trouble using these fonts, then try installing them with your system fonts with Font Book.
You can find the fonts' location outlined in this post:
http://sightcreations.tumblr.com/post/70861264977/new-fonts-in-final-cut-pro-10- 1-and-motion-5-1
Do not remove the originals from FCPX as they are a part of the resource collection in the app — duplicate them before installing them with Font Book (option-drag the folder to your desktop). You should also validate all of them before installing into the system. If you find any bad fonts in the collection, then I would recommend reinstalling FCPX. If you find bad fonts in FCPX, then there's a chance that other resources may also be corrupted.
BTW - FCMetro is in an entirely different location from any of the rest of these fonts. You can find it here:
Final Cut Pro.app / <Show Contents> / Resources / Fonts / FCMetro34.ttf (it's by itself in that location.)
