how would you generate moving tv static - white noise?

Question

how would you generate moving tv static - white noise?

Hey guys and gals - been searching, but with no success, to try and find out the best way to make moving white noise / tv static.

Anyone got any suggestions at all?

why generate the noise at all?
do you have access to a tv / VCR with a receiver? digitize the video output while the tv/VCR is tuned to static.

if you have a VCR that allows you to disable the "blue screen" when you have no signal...you could try playing a blank VHS tape for a different type of noise.

if that's not an option, i can try to think up a combination of effects, but sometimes practical effects are the most effective.

Quick dirty way is to use the Noise generator.
Slap a Desaturate filter (or gradient colorize)
Animate the Seed (with a parameter behavior, or via keyframing)

Tweak to suite your needs.

I was gonna say the same thing as Nipsey. I'd only add that I think the noise grains are too small, being single pixels and I'd generate them at 360x240, then doublesize the generator...

@ patrick: i also think that the noise is too finely granular, but i like your suggestion of scaling it up. i think that the softening due to scaling would only help the effect.

I did this once using the gradient colorize filter over a video set to +50 repeats on a grayscale gradient. Then I just added a "TV static" noise I found on google. With this filter, you can even "morph" a video from full static to a clean image, giving kind of a cool poltergiest effect.
