adding an apple airport device to my netgear router network to strengthen signal for ipad in another room of the house

I was told that if I added an apple airport device to my computer router system it would improve the performance of my ipdad wifi performance in remote area of the house. I do not know how this airport device can be connected. I tried to plug it in and have the computer find the device, but no luck. I tried a cat 5 connection in an area where I have a tv, but no luck.

Any suggestions and how to make this work??
