Q: iphone stolen, in lost mode, activation attempt alert message, now disappeared off my device list and icloud account

My iphone5b was stolen about a month ago. Find My Iphone app was activated and running on my device, so I immeditaely signed onto my icloud account to put stolen device in lock and lost mode. Just now received a message via email regarding an attempt to activate my lost device, clicked the link which led me nowhere. became concerned and wanted to verify nothing was accessed or unlocked on my phone. Went to icloud.com to manage my account but forgot my password, so quickly reset the password by answering my security questions and creating a new password. Signed back onto my icloud to check my device in the Find My IPhone app, and noticed it was now mising. Was this due to resetting the password on my icloud account? if so, is there a way I can still acess my stolen device? Is my device still in lost and lock mode? Will someone be able to activate it? ow do I find my device again??!!

iPhone 5, iOS 7.0.1

My understanding is that changing the password does not prevent Find My iPhone from continuing to work with the account.  However, they may have forced it into recovery mode and restored it.  This would have erased it and rendered it unable to be tracked, but it could not be reactivated and used.
