Security on Mac Air not allowing Java

I have recently downloaded Java onto my Mac air to run the online program OWl. Java will not load content on Safari, Firfox, or Crome due to "security" on my Mac. How do i turn the security off to run content on OWL? I need this for an online chemistry class.
