Q: mail does not recognize my password

OS 10.6.8

Mail v 4.6 (1085)

I am having the exact same problem.

Mail on my Mac not accepting my password

but iCloud mail does.

Just started later today, was OK at 4 AM.

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Same here. Tried every combination of available servers. Nada.

Please help!

Glad to know I'm not alone, but that's pretty much the end of the pleasure.

yep, seeing same issue...

Same thing here on on any Mail version older than 5.3 and my iPod touch. Stopped at about 2PM MST.

Yeah I am having the same isuue on my iMac, no problems on the iPhone or logging in via iCloud, but I use my iMac most for corrosponding via email so this is extremely frustrating.

Several threads going on on this.Obviously a pervasive and recent issue.

I am having the exact same problem since 4PM this afternoon. 

I am using OS10.7.5  on my MacBook Pro. 

  Eventhough I know I am typing in the correct password , my mobileme/icloud mail program keeps giving me the same message :  "The SMTP server “p05-smtp.mail.me.com” rejected the password for user “********”"

I can get my mail on my iphone (Ver 6.1.3)

I am running 10.6.8 and icloud mail was working fine until yesterday. Now it keeps rejecting password for my account and my wife's account. I feel like throwing the laptop out the **** window. No settings have changed.

Aaaannnd, for whatever reason it's all working again here in Saint Paul as of ~8a Central today.

My, that was annoying.

Was it ever working? Try deleting your password in Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access. Then try resetting the original keychain. Also try running First Aid.

iCloud email working on Imac running Mavericks but not on macbook pro 10.6.8. I cannot update the OS on the macbook pro because of restrictions (older laptop)
