Sure you can, stop making silly statements.
The issue that is occurring is that other iPhone users cannot send iMessages to you.
Turn off iMessage.
If you no longer have the iPhone, contact iTunes customer support.
Hi, I had same problem after my daughter switched to android. Turning of iMessage is not the answer as my other children with iPhones couldn't use iMessage to me. This is a simple fix. Me being the iphone user sent a text to my daughter which immediately showed undelivered. I hit the exclamation mark next to the undelivered message and it gave the option to send as text, magic message went through. I had to do this three times, now my iphone recognises my daughters number as text message and not iMessage, also my other iphone family and friends can still iMessage me. Hope this helps worked for me, no more frustration.

That is completely illogical.
Turning off iMessage IS the solution. The user that switches from iPhone to some other device must turn off iMessage.
My daughter turned off iMessage it did not work my method did so explain why turning iMessage off didn't work

I apologize about the odd style but I'm using voice rec software. I just got the Galaxy S five and I have this problem too after weeks of searching online I finally figured out the problem it is with iMessage even if you have your old phones imessage switched off. you have to get your friends to text you normally and send. If the text bubble shows up blue, press and hold choose option send as SMS or text and the bubble will change to green green means SMS blue is the iMessage so its up to the iPhone user to take literally a half of an extra step to send a text to you and if they don't do that then they're just jerks
