iphoto backup reinstall

MacBook needed to be returned to Factory settings per Apple Genius. Per Genius, drag Iphoto icon to External Hard Drive. Wipe aMacbook, install fresh. Take Iphoto icon on External Hard Drive and drag to Macbook Pro to copy albums/photos.

Upon completion of doing as instructed, I now have close to 30,000 pics/videos in various folders. My folders are no longer named. WTFO. Returned to Genius and told "interesting... it shouldn't have done that. Try again." So I went thru the process again, backing up the screwed up library on another external harddrive, same issue.

Any thoughts as to how I can recover my folders and there names as this was a guarantee from Genious?
