icloud freezes Calendar on Mac

I have created an iCloud account on my iphone and Mac. They appear ot be synching between the iphone and www.icloud.com but when I try to open Calendar on the Mac it freezes and I cannot access it. It gives the message "moving calendars to server account". I have tried the troubleshooting suggestions and closed all extraneous calendars since i only use one anyway. I have restarted etc etc but still frozen.

At the first start local calendars and local contacts will be copied to iCloud and deleted on your mac. Maybe there are some corrupted records or other sync problems.

Perhaps it helps you to turn of internet access (WI-FI, LAN), open calendar, export the local stored calendar data. After that delete all local calendars, turn on internet access and import your calendar data back to a new local or iCloud based calendar.
