Pinkish glow around mouse pointer on external screen.

Since the last update (10.9.1) my mid-2012 macbook air started showing a very peculiar behaviour.

Only when connected to an external monitor and waking up from sleep, the mouse pointer on the external monitor comes with a pinkish glow. Very annoying.

Details:

- it only appears within the external monitor, if the pointer is moved into the macbook screen the defect disappear.

- to make it go away, it is enough to unplug and re-plug the external monitor

- it seems that the shadow and the aliasing around the mouse pointer receives the wrong hue on the ext monitor, but mine is only a guess.

- connection thunderbolt (original apple adapter to dvi)

- monitor iiyama prolite B2409HDS

- it started with the update to 10.9.1. NEVER had a problem before that (since 10.8)

any thoughts? Is there anybody out there with the same issue?

Nope, that is not the solution! Why should it be anyway? Any other hue and saturation is correct, except the mouse rim and shadow.

It varied between pink and green lately! 😝

BUT: I've resolved that issue with a reboot of my MacBook Pro - at least for the moment.

If I remember rightly the waking-up problem occured the first time after I've used an DP to VGA adapter for a VGA-beamer presentation. This was the first time I have ever used an DP to VGA adapter and also the timespan in which I noticed that odd behavior.

Okay, sorry, you're right related to my post. I've underspecified the problem description!

At first connect (when my mac is awake and running) everything ist okay.

Then I put my mac into sleep (or it goes to sleep after an idle time) and wake it up again... pink / green mouse rim and shadow. Looks like a transparence mask in photoshop.

But after reboot it is gone...

When I started googling for my problem I thought it'd be a pretty long shot, since it appears to involve so many variables, but was amazed to find your exact description of what I was suffering from.

Mavericks (although I think it has only been happening to me since the latest updates, 10.9.3 ) on retina mbp has weird pink or green halo only on external monitor after resume from sleep. Fixed by unplug/reconnect monitor or restart. The only difference I've noticed from your explanation is that I have the monitor connected with a standard hdmi cable...

I'd appreciate anyone with troubleshooting ideas!

I'm having the same thing, possibly worse. Sometimes on wake my entire external monitor screen is pink! That just happened, so I turned my monitor off and then back on, which usually fixes it. But this time, as has happened on some other occasions, my pointer is surrounded by a pink halo. I just tried unplugging the monitor and plugging it back in. Now the pointer is still surrounded by pink, and when it turns into a bar for selecting text etc, it's yellow.

This began relatively recently. And I thought my monitor was on its last legs. Clearly it's something involving OS X. Any other ideas anyone? Thanks.

Graphics Intel Iris Pro

Software OS X 10.9.3 (13D65)

I'm not sure but it could be that I have started experiencing this glow since a Mavericks update ( I didn't have this issue the first months after upgrading to Mavericks).....

Did anyone already submit a bug report over here : https://bugreport.apple.com ????

Hi all,

Can anyone confirm whether :

  • this "glow" issue might have occured since OS X Update 10.9.3 (May 20, 2014) - seems that some folks have only experienced this since the last update
  • a bug report has been submitted on https://bugreport.apple.com

If a bug report has alreadty been submitted I can refer to the same report...

Thanks,

Thomas

Don't MAC's just work?

Clearly, a known issue for 6 months. Now we need a solution. Is anyone from Apple helping with this problem?

Seems to not discriminate between monitors, or anything external.

Asking a director in my company to cycle power on his monitor every time it happens is not reasonable.
