How can I connect my iPad Air with Macbook Air 2013?

iPad Air is Lighting USB 3.0 and Macbook Air 2013 is USB 3.0

USB 3 is Backwards compatible with USB 2 and 1

Make sure that you are using the latest level of iTunes on your MacBook Air. Latest is 11.1.3.

You should have no trouble connecting an iPad air to a MacBook Air. Use the cable that came with the iPad. And as JimHdk suggests make sure you have the latest version of iTunes on the MacBook.
