Start by downloading and reinstalling iTunes.
If that doesn't do it, try starting iTunes in Safe Mode by holding down the Option and Command keys when starting iTunes.
If it works normally, take a look at this Apple doc -> iTunes: Troubleshooting issues with third-party iTunes plug-ins
I am having the same issue after upgrading to iTunes 11.3 on my Mac Pro running 10.4 Mavericks whenever I try to access my podcasts. The program hangs and requires a force quit. I can no longer use iTunes. How do I downgrade to 11.2?
Also updated this morning to 11.3 for MacBook Air and ALL itunes music except 3 albums are gone.
11.3 with Mavericks on Mac pro too... Anything to do with podcasts pegs iTunes at 100% cpu making it freeze up..
Something is broken with podcasts..
I noticed that it's back to the old "iCloud" icon for un-downloaded podcasts, rather than the more recent and confusing radio signal like icon-
Must be another under the hood change.
There is a problem with this update. Same issue here on my iMac. I installed update this morning and ended up with the spinning beach ball. Spent hours on the phone with tech support everything we tried failed to help. We ended up using a time machine backup from last night to go back to a time prior to the updating the software. iTunes is back to working again albeit back to 11.2.2.
I'm having the same problems. Also there's a long delay when going to the next podcast plus a long delay when pressing stop or the space key. Why is it every time recently an iTunes update causes massive problems for podcasts? Think I may also go back (Time Machine) to 11.2.2 if this continues over the weekend.
How do you revert back to 11.2.2 using Time Machine? I have a Time Capsule. Figured I'd ask so I don't mess it up.
i Just picked a time before in did the updat and restored the entire computer to that point. I did not attempt to do inlet iTunes.
I had a 5 hour long talk with the help desk yesterday about this problem
the woman had no warning though on Friday I had sent at least 3 crash reports
She does a lot of good to my MacPro in general but iTunes didn't improve one bit. It crashes, I can't delete, I miss BBC podcasts galore because by the time it will be operable again they'll be beyond due date. And I'll probably spend, just like in September last year, hours and hours more getting my podcast-treasures in order again.
Will they eliminate Podcatcher from iTunes next? With the amount of care they are taking that looks likeliy to me
I've tried both of these to no avail.
My iTunes just does not respond and hangs on opening it.
This has to be the worst upgrade for an Apple program I have seen.
I must have force quit the **** thing a dozen times, sending reports on each occasion.
Is anyone at Apple paying attention?
did anybody at Apple apologise for the mess they created with Podcasts in September last year?
that's how much attention they pay -
they haven't even listed 11.3 as existing update on their contact support page yet.
as to attention they had an update for iBooks yesterday claiming to correct mistakes, so we aren't the only ones but then iBooks must pay for the stuff they download ... piles and piles of podcast files are for free, that needs to be remedied me thinks they think
Same problem here and this does not look promising if Apple is just going to ignore these problems. Does anybody have a step by step for downgrading from 11.3 to 11.2 without restoring the entire computer?
I had similar problems for weeks, and thinking WAY back to Word and PageMaker on OS 7.5 tried a similar recovery that worked for me.
iTunes 11.3 now works fine for me. No uninstall/reinstall, and all my playlists and media survived.
What is a directory? What is a temporary directory? Where are those four files located? Thanks!
Thank you Kent,
Your fix works.
I have finally been able to open iTunes for the first time since the upgrade.
