My headphones aren't working

I am wondering if there is something wrong with the i pod itself or if I need to set the headphones up with the I pod. The headphones came in the sealed box with the i pod, brand new, one of the headphones doesn't work. I figured it was a bad headphone set, so I bought another brand new pair, same problem. Can someone please help, what is wrong??

I pod nano, Windows XP

Hi, I tried a different paid of headphones on my i pod and they worked. So is their only a certain kind of headphones that will work with it? I don't understand why the ones that come with the i pod dont work. I really don't want to use the other headphones i have because there the ones that go over your head and on top of your ears, is there another kind I can buy?
Thanks for your help!

No, any headphones will work fine.

I don't understand why the ones that come with the i pod dont work.[
Because they are broken.

I really don't want to use the other headphones
If you have had the iPod less than one year, they are still under warranty.
If you live near an Apple store, take them in there.
Or you can go here -> Online iPod Service request (Used for iPod headphones also)

and fill out a request for new headphones.

I really don't understand what is wrong because I have tried 3 pairs from Apple, and none of them have worked. I bought a pair of jvc ones, and I had the same problem. I don't see how the headphones could be broken, I've tried four pairs. Could it be something with the I pod?? Everyone I've talked to has told me my headphoes are broken but I don't think I've gotten 4 pairs of bad headphones, I've called apple support and they tell me the same thing, I don't want to keep orderig headphones and sendig them back when it's obviously not working.
