Q: Canon MF8500Cdw and Mavericks OS

I just bought the Canon MF8500Cdw printer/scanner/copier/fax.  I have Mavericks OS.  I was not able to install the software on the Canon CD because it is too old for Mavericks.  I can print wirelessly, but cannot scan wirelessly.  Does anyone know how to fix this?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.1)

Looks like the Scan option is not supported by Mac Os x with the version of printer that you have according to Apple Website below, you can still check with your Printer Vendor (Check for there Number here): http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/professional/standard_display/contact_by_phone_pro

Tp scan wirelessly the first thing you need to do is install the MF ScanGear v2.20 application. This will create a folde called Canon MF Utilities in Applications and inside of this folder will be the MF Toolbox application. Double-click to open and then click on the MF Toolbox menu and select Network Scanner Settings. With the new window open click the plus button to discover the MF8500. Once it appears in the list, select it and click the Add button.

Now on the MF, set you document and click the Scan button and select Remote Scanner. Then back on the Mac, with MF Toolbox open, click one of the scan buttons like PDF, select your preferred settings and click the Scan button. See if this works.

Note that the MF ScanGear download includes a HTML manual which explains how to use the application.

Canon Printer Drivers v3.1 for OS X

Clearly shows in OS X: Printer and scanner software available for download - Apple Support the Canon MF8500 series printer driver is in the above package.

After installation of driver and reboot there are no MF Series printers available.  Please look into updating this driver package for Canon.
