Q: "MSVCR80.dll Missing"

What anti-virus software are people using that are having this problem? Is there some intersection between the brand of anti-virus software and this installer issue? The one machine that I have been able to get my hands on that has this problem is a Lenovo with PC Doctor.

Windows XP with Microsoft Security Essentials, initial install went sour.

Windows 7 (32bit) with Microsoft Security Essentials, install went smothly.

Thanks!  The solution by turingtest2 on page 8 of 9 worked for me.

To avoid trouble in the future, don't upgrade iTunes while your iPhone/iPod is plugged into your computer's serial port to recharge.  Always unplug your iPhone/iPod (and any iPads) before upgrading iTunes.  This will allow the installer to halt the "Apple Mobile Devices Support" service while the upgrade is taking place.

Also do turningtest2's full uninstall procedure if you are upgrading from the 32-bit to the 64-bit version of iTunes.

Done that, but can't get a new copy to download.

For what it is worth, I did nothing to cause this to happen. Apple's autmatic update did it. Yes, I clicked the button to allow the update, but that is all. Apple broke it and they should fix it. I should not be required to follow a lengthy procedure to fix it. They should provide an automatic fix that is as easy for me to use as it was for the problem to have first occured.

Windows 7 Norton's Internet Security 2014 latest updates.  I think Apple might not monitor this site and it's only for members to help members  I uninstalled what was mentioned and did a reinstall on Itunes without a reboot.

This worked for me. (Uninstalled Bonjour too.) Libary and settings remained intact.

I am facing the same issue: the last iTunes updates, recommended by the Apple Update software, has corrupted my iTunes setup (MSVCR80.DLL)

According to the event viewer, the failure seems to be be cause by Apple Mobile Device as it apprentely did not cancel its subscription to the XP notification service before being stopped.

So, I am also in the process of uninstalling/reinstalling, as forum indicates this should resolve the solution. One thing to report already: the "Apple Mobile Device Support" program fail to uninstall ;( I tried to manual stop the corresponding service, to put its restart in manual mode, to reboot ....but it still fails to uninstall.

OK, let's cross fingers hoping that the re-installation of iTunes will clean the situation in that respect.
