Q: "MSVCR80.dll Missing"

iTunes no longer starts on my PC the message is: this program cannot start  "MSVCR80.dll Missing".   This program has operated well for months and I have made no alterations other than attempting to install the latest update, what should I do?

It worked: reinstallation seems to have fixed the situation (except maybe the ability to uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support but I am not going to try to do this anyway now as everything works)

I was a bit surprised that it wasn't even necessary to relogin in iTunes Store: all my settings seems to have been preserved.

    Back to normal.

Still, the situation that this has created (and the number of hours that the worldwide population will loose fixing it) would imho deserve a special post by Apple.

I follow otacon72's instructions. They work. I deleted and installed as she or he said and all my music returned with the new installation. Thanks!

While on my computer about 24 hours after I resolved my issue, I suddedly got that dreaded "blue screen."  The recommendation was to go into safe mode if I had added a new program recently, so I did that, and then did a system restore, which went to after I had uninstalled ITunes and before I reinstalled it.  I wanted to intall the last version I had previous to the update, but cojuldn't find it, so I had no choice but to upload the current one.  Thus far the computer is working fine.  Hopefully it stays that way.

Many thanks to octacon72.  I struggled for hours before reading your instructions.  They worked a treat.

I realise a number of posts are saying the same thing, but I thank you for your post - followed it to the letter and it worked a dream! Am upset with Apple over this silly problem, but glad to have my itunes back!!  Very appreciative. :-)

I have just restored my pc to before the update was downloaded and that has given me a quick fix. Obviously I can't download anymore itunes updates until it gets sorted (and I am hoping that Apple do sort it out) but it's quicker and simpler than removing everything and starting again.  I had an adjustment to make on the tamper settings of my Norton before the pc would accept the restore but once that was done the restore worked fine and I now have itunes back and operational.

Perfect! Your solution worked for me. Thanks.

FYI - I noticed as I uninstalled the Apple products I had 2 Apple Mobile Device Support programs. Uninstalled both along with everything else and the install of iTunes worked like a charm.

    Thanks again.

    thanks turingtest2

that worked for me (though i was not able to uninstal the Apple Mobile Device Support).

i find myself surprised that this affected so many people - you would have thought there would be some pre-release checks done.

Think about all the people who don't post or visit this group.  Would bet this issue is effecting a whole lot more people that we have any idea......  Has anyone seen if there's been another iTunes update since this started?  I've turned off all auto updates for the time being.

Apple doesn't really care about how there software works on Windows pc's.

    Look at Safari for Windows.

So about pre-release testing, I'm not sure.
