Q: "MSVCR80.dll Missing"

iTunes no longer starts on my PC the message is: this program cannot start  "MSVCR80.dll Missing".   This program has operated well for months and I have made no alterations other than attempting to install the latest update, what should I do?

Spent 2 days trying to figure out how to fix this thing before realizing it was an Apple issue.  Then tried unistalling/installing iTunes 3 times with no luck.  The key issue was uninstalling EVERYTHING Apple, as suggested by Octacon72.  Worked on the first reinstall....and didn't have to reboot.  Thanks everyone for posting your comments!  It helped knowing his suggestion worked for so many of you.

Thank you otacon72.  Worked like a charm.  Apple should give you a job.

I got through all but the Mobile Device Support which kept UNdoing the Uninstall.  It'd get about 80% through it, and the progress bar would BACK UP and report the uninstall was not done.

But then I was able to successfully reinstall iTunes anyway . without the recurring errors I had had all day.

So, thank you for your good advice.  (I wonder what caused that pevuliar behavior.)

    Regards,

    Stephen

Wow!  tt2  Your patience & humor are much appreciated!

I also wanted to get some work done & listen to my tunes.  Up pops the update, ok, will do.  It failed.  I wonder if a previous MS Update wiped out the msvcr80.dll that iTunes needed?  Or maybe Apple just wanted everyone to start with a clean slate.  I remember Firefox doing that to me recently.  But I digress.

I read thru all 14 pages and the recurring fix seemed to be as you said, un-install, boot & re-install.  Not wanting to do this multiple times, I did follow your complete instructions.  Uninstalled all 5 Apple programs.  Went into Safe Mode & deleted all files as recommended in the HT1923 article.  Used CCleaner to clean up registry files.  Restarted, installed iTunes and am once again listening to my complete library.  Thank you again for your patience and excellent instructions.

    Otacon,

Need some help here: I am trying to follow your suggestions but am unsuccessful.

My PC will not allow me to uninstall Apple Mobile Device support; I have tried repeatedly; I have also rebooted numerous times.

At first, I received the "MSVCR80.dll is missing."

Now, I receive the "icudt49.dll is missing."

This is myhome computer; I am the administrator.

All other Apple programs are uuninstalled.

This is most frustrating. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit) , properly updated. Never had a problem like this before.

    Any ideas?

    Jeff

Ok.  I just used turingtest2's solution to fix my Vista computer.  I do not have an Apple id & did not have to provide one.  Now my hubby's XP computer has two accounts.  His acct has iTunes installed and he has an Apple id.  But it did not install in my acct (used to fix his when I hear "Hey!  What the..").  So I think you'll have to un-install it from both accounts, then re-install in each acct and it will bring in the library for that acct.

You do not have to open itunes to back up the music.  Open Computer/ C: / Documents&Settings if XP or Users if Vista / Mandy / Music and you should see an iTunes folder.  Back up that folder which contains all your music, artwork etc.  Repeat for other user.

Now I'm off to tackle hubby's XP.

I was having the same problem as a lot of others on here. I tried to update my IPhone and it came up with the message...This program cannot start because MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer. Try re installing program to fix this problem". I uninstalled ITunes as that was the only program I had used and tried reinstalling this again but it wouldnt allow me too and came up with APS Daemon.exe error message. I have since checked online and found these blogs which I am most grateful to Otacon72 for his instructions....this appears to have fixed the problem without me losing any of my playlists.....Apple needs to get these things correct before disrupting people in this way.....thanks again Otacon72

Your library is safe from the uninstall/reinstall process, but you ought to be routinelybacking up anyway.
