iMac G5 booting problems

iMAc G5 slow and noisiy booting

Hello,

When I boot up the iMAc, a grey folder with a querstion mark shows up blinking. Then the fans go crazy and it takes like 15 minutes to load everything. What does that mean? Is the drive dying? Does repairing the permission could help? Thanks for you help.
