As you can see in this article, Apply only provides a resolution for OSX 10.8 and 10.7-, not for 10.9.x. But I also enconter this issue every date in OSX 10.9, it's very annoyed!

The only fix is a motherboard swap. What you can do is force it to the built in Intel graphics and hide the problem, although you lose the speed of your discrete graphics card that way. Use gxfstatus and force to Intel.
