1. Disable your Firewall by going to System Preferences>Security & Privacy. Click the Firewall tab then click the lock icon at the bottom of the window this will enable you to turn the Firewall on or off.

2. Be sure you're not connected to a VPN or Proxy. < (I was able to install the latest uTorrent when I disconnected from my VPN).

Hope I helped.

I recently bought a mac and had the same problem, luckily I found a workaround. Its probably because some servers that the installer contacts are blocked by our respective ISP or country. I live in Pakistan so this holds true for my country. maybe the Spigot servers. anyway coming to the point, using a VPN will fix your problem. Hotspot shield worked for Youtube Downloader, but not for utorrent and bittorent. for these two I used tunnelblick, using server configurations from www.vpnbook.com, that also if I used US servers, EU servers returned the same error. I regularly need VPN to access youtube so this workaround isn't much of a hassle for me. hope it fixes your problem too.

Just install Cyberghost, it's available for Mac as well as Win.

The uTorrent installer gives weird errors like "could not download an installer extension" or "could not initialize the installer". The installer has to download some stuff from the web, and it looks like some ISPs block those.

When Cyberghost ran(and had fully connected - this takes a few mins), I didn't get any of those errors.
