macbook air keeps restarting on battery power

Question

macbook air keeps restarting on battery power

I'm not sure what is going. After a few seconds on battery power it goes to a black screen and I have to use the power button to bring it back on. I'll get the boot up sounds and all normal till it goes black again.

MacBook Air (13-inch Mid 2011), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)
