Q: itunes update failed - can't get past "Apple mobile device failed to start"

Jan 23, 2014 9:54 AMby turingtest2,Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (Later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
- iTunes
- Apple Software Update
- Apple Mobile Device Support
- Bonjour
- Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.

Should you get the error iTunes.exe - Entry Point Not Found after the above reinstall then copy QTMovieWin.dll from:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
and paste into:
C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
The above paths would be for a 64-bit machine. Hopefully the same fix with the " (x86)" omitted would work on 32-bit systems with the same error.

Jan 23, 2014 10:05 AMby Alexx1083,I'm trying to uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support, but it won't go away. iTunes and Apple Software Update went just fine. I click "uninstall" for the Apple Mobile Device Support, and it just stays there. I've done it at least three times now. Should I continue to uninstall the others, or keep with the order you suggested?

Jan 23, 2014 10:09 AMby turingtest2,Press the Windows Logo Key and R at the same time. Type in services.msc and press enter. Locate the service and try to halt it. It seems from elsewhere that if you can't get it to uninstall then just press on with the other components and it all comes out OK in the end.

Jan 23, 2014 2:53 PMby Regino Juancho,Turingtest2's advice worked. I did have to uninstall a number of times until |I am down to Apple Mobile Device that woudn't uninstall. I rebooted and installed iTunes anyway. It worked. If it didn't, I would turn off the service per your advice and then uninstall it. I did all of these today. Thank you Turingtest2.
