Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (Later)

Remove all of these items in the following order:

  • iTunes
  • Apple Software Update
  • Apple Mobile Device Support
  • Bonjour
  • Apple Application Support

Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.

Should you get the error iTunes.exe - Entry Point Not Found after the above reinstall then copy QTMovieWin.dll from:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support

and paste into:

C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes

The above paths would be for a 64-bit machine. Hopefully the same fix with the " (x86)" omitted would work on 32-bit systems with the same error.

turingtest2,

I followed the fix you wrote and it still doesn't work. Still getting Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library error as well as error 1114 and R6034, icudt49.dll missing. And to install again. What to do now? Thanks!

Try using the slightly more detailed process outlined in HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8. If any component fails to uninstall try moving on to the next step anyway. With luck once you actually reboot and attempt the reinstall it will go through.

To MightyPapa & jumbo7j7...

Many users have found that even though they couldn't remove AMDS if they carried on with the next steps it all got resolved in the end. Otherwise try working through the steps in HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8. There are a few extra wrinkles in there that most users don't seem to need. You may need to reboot in safe mode to delete items that won't go otherwise.

This seems a bit of a winding road and my apologies if Ive missed something in hear. turing could you pls confirm:

- the basic process is set out here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923

- if errors just go to next step

What Id like to also know is:

- my music files are all outside iTunes (FLAC library etc) obviouly they wont be affected

- Ive copy the contents of iTunes (for the xml mainly) - I can use this to avoid reimporting all my songs / platlists?

- what about iPad backups sync etc?

What Id really like to know is:

- is the C+ Runtime actually messed up? will that affect any other pograms? does the reinstall fix that

- HOW ON EARTH does Apple let something out the door. Have they heard of testing

- given the huge inconvenience etc caused to everyone why is Apple doing nothing?

Hello, it's three nights I'm trying to solve the problem. Now I'm definetely upset.

I did sever times all the described procedures here and here http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1925 but I wasn't able to succesfully reinstall itunes. OK this is not the real problem, I can manage my ipod with a different software like Sharepod.

The real problem is that now each time I boot my pc I get that Runtime error R6034! Even with no Apple software installed, everything was succesfully uninstalled.

I tried to install a previous version of itunes, I tried "MS fix it" but with no result, I tried to clean the registry with CCleaner deleting all dead itunes, ipod, apple etc entries, no result.

Unfortunately I can't roll back my system to a previous restore point.

Now I want you to tell me how to get rid of that runtime error, no matter to reinstall any apple software. I want my XP back working correctly.

Thank you.

Apple's advice on this issue can now be found here: TS5376: iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows: Unable to install or open.

The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See the user tip Backup your iTunes for Windows library with SyncToy for a suggested strategy.

If you have difficulty downloading the iTunes setup file try clearing your browser's cache or using an alternate browser.

If content is missing from the library following the repair see Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash.

For device connectivity issues following the repair see TS1538: iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows, in particular section 5.

MobileMe is a discontinued service and should be removed if present. See HT2992: MobileMe: Uninstalling the MobileMe Control Panel for Windows for details.
